supra and celica have same/similar trannys. possible differences are small. teh big difference is in the diff. rwd toys have different ratios in teh rear. from 3.42-4.30 factory. a 3.42 will give ya 60mph @ 2000rpm in 5th. a 4.30 will be way too 'tall' if you're interested in gas mileage/low cruise
the tranny isn't your problem.
