Re: Timing Chain

I own a 84 GT, i just recently replaced the timing chain on it. It is a single row chain, i beleave you'd have to find a 20R for the stock double row chain. You can convert your engine to a double row. I dont know what will happen to your valves if the chain breaks... but i do know what happens if your chain stretches too much and rubs agenst your timming chain cover... If left unattended long enough, the chain will grind right into your water pump and leave a gapping hole going right into your timing chain cover. This will kill the motor. Dont ever let your timing chain get this bad! My timing chain was only a millimeter or two away from cracking through into my water pump! Also, you cannot use a 85+ timing chain kit/cover for your 84 engine. In the 85+ 22-re's they made the block about an 1/8 of an inch shorter. This makes it so your timing chain will be too short for your engine and the cover will also be too short to fit. (trust me, i broke a 85 timing chain cover trying to get it to work.)
