Re: Looking for ltd slip diff for 83 irs

The stock differential on the 83 GT-S is a T model, which means is runs a 6.7" ring gear. It is possible to find a LSD setup for this size differential but they are incredibly rare. As I recall you can find them on the odd AE86 corolla. But good luck!
I would suggest swaping out the entire rear suspension assebly (rear crossmember, arms, diff, top carrier) for one out of a supra with LSD. This has the added benifit of adding four wheel disc breaks instead of the rear drums. Any 82-86 Supra will fit in the GTS Celica. You will have to decode the differenial code on the VIN plate to figure out of the donor car has what you are looking for (See: Toyota Differntial Codes
Since this question is so common I will be writing a how-to article very soon. But the swap is fairly strait forward. Disconnect the parking break cable from the handle (You will need the cable for the disc breaks), disconnect the driveshaft at the center carrier bearing (You will want the back half of the driveshaft), disconnect the shocks and break lines. The very carfully remove the 4 nuts that hold it all up. Just four, two on the rear crossmember and two on the diff carier crossmember. Be carfull because when it drops everone withing 100 yards will know.
Stay tuned for the how-to article.
Oh and you will need to grab a brake proportioning valve from an 85 GT-S or something for the rear discs.
Steve
