Sounds like your run way to lean, if your exhaust manifold is glown red only after a minute or so then cheak your fuel pessure, your injectors for plugging and then check the injector pulse with(use a screw driver and place on the injector(small end) and put your ear on the handle, you should hear a buzz sound(that your injector firing or pulse) check each one.
There a many more things to check but first if you plan to keep the car any period of time then buy your self the Toyota Sevical Manual also called the "Big Green Book" I payed about 65US at the dealership, and YES they can order it  Do not take a no, they can and will order it  if not then go to a different Toyota dealership

I repeat: You can still order the Factory Repair Manual for your year Celica.
