I know what you are talking about all too well. I don't know why toyota's plastic deck bezel thing is undersized but there is no question, it IS undersized. I had to cut the littly plasic tab around where I installed my deck. Once I did that everything fell into place. The deck looks stock.
The first time is the hardest, after that it gets a lot easier. I have removal/installation of the sterio down to an art. Tear the whole thing apart 10 times and it starts to seem easy!
