You did remove the the wire that short the terminal? What is your timing without the shorted terminal? Yes it will be different. Have you checked the knock sensor to see if it bad or too sensitive, it may be sensing knock even though there is no knock. Is the car advancing the timing when you rev the car. 2)Is your TPS(Thottle Position Sensor) correctly adjusted, if it is not, then your non-shorted timing will be off. You can check your TPS with a MutliMeter, check your Haynes Manual for the check readings. Try these let me know if any of these work/help
P.S.: What was your timing before you adjusted it?
