Re: Turbo or Supercharger?

You can use any kind of turbo you can fit onto a manifold. The most common turbos I have seen are either the stock (lame) toyota units, or the ones made by LC Engineering. LC makes some great turbo stuff for the 22RE.

There aren't any mass produced supercharger kits for the 22RE. I have seen a supercharged engine for sale on the LC clone site. But it is very expensive (if they even still have it).

Turbos can develop great boost and dont hog much power making it. But they dont produce boost until they compleyly spool up. Far after idle. So they dont give you a neck-snapping jolt off the line.

Superchargers can make boost from a much lower RPM. That gives you a real jump. They do take power off then engine since they are run off the crankshaft. But nowhere near as much as they add =P

Both can be great setups, I perosnally would prefer a supercharger setup. But the price is much greater.

Hope this helps,
