Re: RWD Celicas are not for racing!

For one thing, I doubt that there are many people who are seriously (serious as in spending big $$$ just to get that last tenth in the quarter) into drag racing 22RE powered Celicas. You're right, there are better starting places than a 22RE Celica for building a drag car. But if everyone took the easiest, cheapest method to drag racing, everyone would be racing muscle cars or lightweight rwd sports cars with V8's stuffed in them. Personally, I could care less about participating in any kind of racing that doesn't turn left and right.

You don't have to stick with a 22RE btw, there are alot of possible engine swaps for the Celicas, like the 3SGTE. Stick one of those in a Celica, swap in a Supra rear end, and you've got a car that is respectably quick. It's not going to be a drag strip burner, but it's far from slow and still fairly cheap, cheaper than a stock 240Z or Supra, neither of which are exactly cheap to modify either.

And drag racing isn't the only kind of racing. Autocross is popular, and best of all, it's divided up into clases so that you have rwd Celicas running against similarly slow cars. Celicas work perfectly fine for autocross. So you certainly can't say that rwd Celicas are not for racing.
