Matt - cooling questions

Matt, thanks for your previous advice. You seem very knowledgeable about these engines. I hope you can answer my question.

My car does not go into overdrive after around 20-30 mins. of driving. In the meantime, my car is stuck on 3rd gear. It seems like the transmission waits for the coolant to get hot enough before it gets into overdrive. Is there a thermosensor that tells the transmission to go into overdrive?

By the way, I checked my overdrive switch and it seems to be working fine. I have not checked the OD solenoid yet. Also, transmission fluid has been flushed and filter replaced.
