Sounds like a typical Toyota AT tranny. It just needs to be warmed up. If you change your trans filter often you can see how much metal crap is left in the bottom of the trans pan. anything more than a teaspoon of crap means that you are starting to have problems. IF you do see that you are having problems, start seaching for a used tranny. Early 80's toyota tranny are nitorious for crapping out.
