Remember that the cam bolt are also the head bolts. Both the Haynes and the BGB(toyota book) tell you to replace the head gasket anytime you replace the cam.
Ask around I'm sure someone has tried replacing the cam without replacing the head gasket.
You are installing a adjustable time gear too right?
