Re: Head gasket,metal or regular????

A metal head gasket is allot stronger than the standard style head gasket. It is also about 5 times the price of a normal gasket.

Actualy the 22R head gasket is really long lasting. Most 22R engines dont have to worry about a BHG for at least 200k miles. Where-as the 7M supra engines often had their head gasket go out under 50k miles. They -need- a metal head gasket.

Unless you are running high compression or high boost there really is no need for a metal gasket, a normal FelPro or something along the lines is just fine. But if you can afford the extra hundred sum-odd bucks it wouldn't hurt. And IIRC the metal gaskets are reusable. Assumeing that the gasket is still in good shape.

Often the metal gasket you get will be thicker than a normal gasket, this will lower compression ratio. You can specify how thick you want your gasket thoug.

One of the leading causes of a BHG (especialy in the supra engines) is loose head bolts. They tend to losten up after a while. Not much mind you (so long as the were torqed right) but a little is enough. I would recommend ARP head studs to cure this possible problem. A stud is a very different beast than a bolt. ARP studs will hold strong. In my opinion unless you are running a high CR or high boost the money is better spent on a set of ARP studs. If you are running high CR or high boost I would recommend both a metal head gasket and ARP studs.
