Re: Rust on the Hatch

Funny you mention this, i came into an 83 celica gt for 50$. she'd been sitting for 7 years and has rust holes around the window, as well as rust along the nameplate holes, and rust at the keyhole. i think i'll be getting a spare hatch (possibly in better condition) and if so, i could probably fix up the one i got and sell it to you. as for fixing: the rear window is held in by the weatherstrip. toyota service manual says that you take off the trim, and from underneath, pry the weather strip up, the window will pop out. just did it today, guess what? it works. from that point, grind off all the rust, patch the holes with some steel and your trusy Lincoln Electric Auto-Mig 10 (its a welder.. and my girlfriend, all in one), bondo, paint and gloat. oh yeah, you might wanna put the window back in, though if you live in warm climates, plexi or lexan would take about 25lbs out of the back end. (no defogger strips on the plexi tho... thats why i cant up here in canada. S=o)
