High Octane troubles

Has anyone had trouble running 94 octane gasoline in a mechanically showroom stock 83 22r-e? Mine stumbles on the high octane when i drop the pedal fast, but roars when i feed it low grade! its an abomination!
my friend therorized that the motor doesnt compress the mixture enough to properly ignite the high octane juice. or could it be the "up to 10% ethyl" in the gas? i think my friend is right however... time to boost the compression! *grin*
