buick motor in celica would rock. plain and simple. 3cyl long pushed back against firewall for g/handling. you'd be set to go. be sure to have good brakes and suspension, cause you're on a trip to one fun oldskool import.

enough of that. the 3.8 has the same side to side dimension of a 350.. or very close. the small block will fit in the engine compartment, purists will whine about the non-toytoy parts.. but do what will put a smile on your face.

a small block in terms of handing is better suited to a supra.. but the buick motor would be a riot in the celica.
