engine will not start 22r-ec engine

I have a 85 celica gts. We bought it for $200. they tried to replace head gasket but did it wrong. I have gone through and re done the head gasket. in the process i got the head resurfaced and a valve job. While i was at it i replaced piston rings and rod bearings. I believe i did all that right. the valves are adjusted to spec. the distributor is in time, coil works, spark at plugs(new plugs), compression is at a even 120 psi on all cylinders. Is this Low, I have a book that says 160 psi? the engine fires and acts like it will start but then it dies. Any help would be very much appreciated as i have worked on this problem for over 2 weeks.
