For performance reasons you will definitely want to run heavy gauge power wire from the battery to your amp. I use 4 gauge with an inline fuse. The storage compartment in the left rear of an 85 gt liftback is deep enough to house my 400 watt sony amp. I ran all wires along the left under the carpet and punched a hole with a step bit in the very bottom front corner of the plstic cover to feed the wired through. This allows a stealth install and I have never had a problem with overheating.
