Check your alternator. My brake light was staying on and my cruise control quit working. I had my 82 GT diagnosed by a shop as having a bad alternator. I was skeptical but went ahead and changed it myself. After driving for about 10 minutes with the new alternator the brake light went out and the cruise control started working again.
