Hey there I had an 86 celica and I cut the metal piece off with a hacksaw and made it an instant short shifter.. I then went and got a momo shifter and used there parts to make it stay in place since there is no more theard, another idea would to cut and weld the tread piece to it.. that's what i did with my 85 celica gt-s conv.. i have pic of the short shifter
