Ok, first you need to figure out which kind of block you have. early block has "hemi" combustion chambers, dome top pistons and round exhaust ports. Late 22R/E have flat top pistons, smaller combustion chambers, and pear shaped exhaust ports. Early head will go on early block, and late heads will go on late blocks, but you can't mix and match. The easiest way to tell is by the valve cover. Late has a boxier front, while the early has a slant on the front.
