First choice- Rota RB-R's (hyper black or gunmetal) in 17x8.5 +4. If the price and delivery time are right, I'll run them with 245/40s.

That should be your only choice... I don't know if you looked recently at wheel disponibility, but 245/45R16 are becoming rare and crappy. 225/50R16 are easy to find and cheap, but it's not realy wide enough for real track day and drag race (with the kind of engine setup you have) and using different tires  front and rear (like 225/50R16 and 245/50R16) will probably lead to understeer without trottle input.

245/40/17 and 255/40R17 are realy easy to find and sometimes cheaper. Since wheels are getting bigger and bigger on new cars I think that those size will stay available for a longer period. I could not find many newer car using 225/50R16 or 245/45R16. 245/50R16 is a bit big and would look clumsy

I've also been trying to find the proper wheels and although I'm not a big fan of large wheels (I'd stick with 16's if I could find track tires (like Azenis Rt605 in the 245/45's for decent price), but the fact is that the choice is getting bad in those sizes (out of 11 tires on tirerack 6 are slicks over 200$ each and I've eared that the AVS ES100 were discontinued). For 255/40 you have 56 tires and for 245 you have 62

Go Canada Go!

That's the car that got me onto the 17s! I've always liked the way 17s look on older cars anyway. Sixties Camaros and Mustangs look awesome with them, and our cars are similar in proportion.

My only concern is how they will ride, but there is still almost 4" of sidewall so they shouldn't be too bad.

I agree about tire selection. If (when) the 245 16s come to an end, there should still be a decent supply of 225s, but those would be second best IMO.

BTW, does disponibility=availability? Smiley

Yeah sorry some words can be used almost directly from french to english. Apparently this one isn't one of them. feel free to correct me when you see mistakes I make. That way I'm gonna get better.

I was also looking at the banzai 17x8 +15 and if you have too much money the SSR professor ms1R and sp1. Someone whos working in a wheel shop found some 5 zigen that could do the job. I was told that almost any brand should be able to drill whatever pattern you want.

http://www.axiswheels.com/wheels.php?id=banzai

Those are the ms1R

rwdfreak, those look absolutely gorgeous on that Z, but I don't know (don't think) how they'd look on a Celi.

celica83_gts, I'm not much on 17s on old muscle cars, but I do think 16s look good.

No worries, your English is better than many who were born to it. Besides, we learned a new French word too.

I was considering the Banzai too, it's definitely a good style for older imports. Wonder if these are 17s?

I went to the shop today to discuss wheels, they say they can get Rota RBs for me, but can't get a price until Monday. They will be more than the XXRs for sure, the exchange rate sucks right now. They say they will give me a good price because I've been waiting so long, we'll see.

For an 8" wide wheel I wouldn't go much higher than a zero offset, the range I've experienced without rubbing is +12 to -10.  The -10 was on my car with some massaged fenders so you may or may not rub on a stock vehicle.  This was with 16x8 wheels with 245/45s.
For a nine inch wide wheel it starts getting tight, -1.4mm rubs.  I just got my spacers milled down and I'm now sitting at a +2 offset and the fronts seem to clear nicely.  I haven't gotten on it hard enough to get the rear into the rubbing area but I'll let people know if/when it happens.  This is with 275/40s all the way around on 17x9s.  They look absolutely awesome though, and the scary part is that you could actually go wider on the back, they only rub on the front edge of the wheel well with the rear tires under a lot of compression.

If 275s on a 9" clear on all corners, I should be in good shape with 245s on 8.5" with a +4 offset. Right in the sweet spot, if my measurements are right.

We need pics of that car. All I've seen have been teasers, I'd really like to see it full-on in the daylight.   bow

Edit: Aha, I found the elusive Darinmobile pic. Like trying to catch a Sasquatch! This car surely breaks the heart of many muscle car owners. :D I'm assuming these are the 245x16s.

That's why they are so expensive, you can pick almost any width and any offset from the table available on their site www.ssrwheels.com

I was browsing on zilvia.net the other day and I was able to find at least a dozen of wheels that could fit for decent price. S13 use the same bolt pattern as us so why not use it. They use higher offset, but thanks to the drift and bososoku scene, there's some nice ones. 17's are harder to find.

Like this one: http://zilvia.net/f/wheels-tires/234942-fs...ece-wheels.html

I don't like the style, but everything just fits nice.
http://zilvia.net/f/wheels-tires/233366-16...-4x114-3-a.html

Watanabes in 16's for really cheap (offset would look better on a GT)
http://zilvia.net/f/wheels-tires/234709-16...-watanabes.html

18x9.5 +12 work

Back to Darin's 275s....here's pics of a Supra with 275/40 on 17x9 out back. BTW, I've seen this car, it's flawless. 7MGTE and all the fixin's. We might have one advantage over the Supra gang if can run these tires on all 4 corners.

After finding out that the 17s would cost as much as 16s with tires, Ive ordered the XXR 513, black, in 16x8. I have too many other projects on the go to justify the extra expense right now, so my expectations have to be lowered a little. As for tire availability, I doubt that I'll own these cars long enough to not be able to find tires. I'm still excited about how they're gonna look on either car, pics will follow.

Maybe the next project will get the 17s.... cool

Okay, picture time.  I thought I lost my camera but I finally found it, here's a few with the new wheels/tires.  This is 275/40/17 -1.4mm offset 17x9s all the way around, yes, they rubbed.  I got them down to a +2 offset and they don't rub any more but you can barely tell the difference by looking at them.

Those wheel would be perfect if they wouldn't need a spacer. It amazing that you were able to fit those really wide tires on the front without rubbing. Thanks for the specs, now I can start hunting for some wheels.

Your car is almost perfect. Sleeper looking, nice engine good suspension, grippy tires. I really like what you've done.

sorry if I missed it, but what wheels have you settled on? I like the way they look, but also curious of the style you chose.

To be honest I haven't.  I'm leaning toward the FN01R-C because they make it with a +15 offset but there isn't any lip on that wheel and it might look funny.  Other than that I'm either using a big spacer like I am now or spending a bunch of money.  In other words I'm still thinking about it.
