The non US models had a variety of engine and accesory options. Anywhere from the cloth on seats, to the type of radio you get. The difference on the models are alittle more pronounced.

What' the difference betwwen the XTand the GT or GTS
XT were European or in the case of Hades, his is Australian.  These models weren't sold in America.  They were in between the European ST and GT models.
how can they be between a ST and GT? not much difference anyways... besides the options you can pick...
I know but like the poster above mentioned the Celica came in a vast array of models, especially in the international market (Non USA).  For example the European XT came with a different motor (21R) than the European ST (2TB).   Also, only the European ST and XT came in the coupe and liftback.  The European GT only came in liftback.   There were also differences in the trim.  I like to think of ST for standard trim and GT for Grand Trim but Toyota preferred standard touring and grand touring instead.

In the USA the ST had a slightly different interior than the GT.  For example, the center console, cluster, and the shift knob were simplier than the GT.  There is also an obvious difference in the exterior trim with the GT being more elaborate.  ST seats came in vinyl.  GT seats had more options.

See there is where the market differs too, since both Japan and the Caribbean market had the GT in both shapes.

Yes, there sure was a ton of different configurations for the 3rd generation.  The Japanese Supras were called Celica XX?

Japanese models were:

2800GT
2000L
2000S
2000G
2000GT
1800SV
1800ST
1800ST-EFI
1800SX
1600GT Rally
1600GT

American models:

Coupe ST
Coupe GT
Liftback GT
Liftback GT
Liftback GTS
Supra
Supra L

European Models:

Coupe ST
Liftback ST
Coupe XT
Liftback XT
Liftback GT

I'm not sure if some of these models were dropped during the production of the 3rd generation.

I don't know anything about the Caribbean except there is a dealer somewhere down there that is listing a crap load of new parts in stock for the 3rd generation.

Anyway, I get most of my information from a chapter out of a marquee book, which I should scan and post.

they never made a GT Rally version of a 3rd gen...

I've got a japanese book all about celicas and they never even show, talk about or mention a 3rd gen Gt rally. Maybe you found all the 2nd gen models... because i know they made a second gen GT Rally...

And what about the GT-R and the GT-T and the GT-TR? you are missing alot of models.

and yes, the Supra was the Celica XX 2.8 GT... although they had about 4 engine options for the Celica XX.

gt used to be known as a interior package toyota also added the luggage rack on the rear deck of the gt coupe gt gran turisimo meaning grand touring and the rugged interior of the gt was meant to accent this cars touring status along with the luggage rack and in my opinion why it has the solide non-irs susspension the tire last longer

Yeah but the US model was the only GT with solid rear axles.  Problem is, this leads me to believe that Toyota sends vehicles over here that cannot sell other places. I see alot of Corollas (newer models) with interior problems, and the quality/fitment doesnt seem on par with the Caribbean market cars. Toyota had the JZA70 Supras, yet they never came here.  Some of the engines I can understand, like the 4AGE 20valve, since its torque delivery would not make it for the American taste.  However for such a big market, I find it hard to believe that they have decided to ommit so much of their finer models, whether sport or sedan

Bridge:

I got my information from Toyota Celica: 25 years of Development and Motorsport Long, Brian, p 58.

In fact here is the page:

http://members.trailnet.com/sophieb/p58.pdf

This is from the chapter about the 3rd generation.

The 1600GT Rally is on the list along with enough other information concerning the model that leads me to believe that it did/does exist.  Sorry.

Does this table show the other models you talking about:

http://members.trailnet.com/sophieb/p65.pdf

You have any images of the GT-T model?  I think it's the best looking Celica.

I agree.  I think the US Environmental Protection Agency made Toyota limited in what power plants to offer for the US market.  Also, most Celicas produced were for the US market so I would imagine that these are the worst made due to the volume needed to import in the shortest amount of time.  I have to admit.  I would love to have one of the Celicas other than US imported.  I live in an area that doesn't check the emission status of my vehicle.  I could get away with it here.

I am sure you could get one by the US Customs, since the body is the same and with the 4age it is already certified

   Now, to find one in mint condition.  Wonder what something like that would cost?  I think those exterior rearview mirrors would be illegal for the street.  That would have to be fixed up.

i've been trying to looking importing a GT-R... it looks like it'll be really hard. Unless you acutally go to japan or know someone who lives there and is willing to send you a GT-R i dont think you'll have any luck getting one.

I've heard rumors about Japan forcing vehicles to the junk yard due to strict emission code regulations.

i contacted TOYSPORT about importing RHD (JDM) 3rd gen celicas and they said most are recycled or owned by collectors... so it'll be hard to find one for a good price etc...
