There's been a request for some clarification on some of the acronyms and shorthand that we use around the forums. If you've got any that you'd like to have explained, put a post here, and if someone answers I'll update this post with the answers to keep everything in one place.

IFS = Independent Front Suspension
IRS = Independent Rear Suspension
AFM = Air Flow Meter
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
dizzy = distributor
TB = throttle body
P/S = power steering
CC = cruise control
cat - catalytic converter
diff/pumpkin/"r/e" - differential, rear-end
PDL - Power Door Locks
PW - Power Windows
ITB- Independent throttle bodies
RPM- revolutions per minute (if you don't know that you don't need a license)
CC-cubic centimeters (displacement)
CI- cubic inch (displacement)
ECT- Electronic control transmission
DCOE-doppio corpo orizzontale (means dual body. it refers to sidedraft carbs)
ECM/ECU- electronic control module/unit (the cars computer)
Alt - Short for alternator
Batt - Short for battery
SRA - Solid rear axle (st and gt were always SRA on third gens inside the US)
A/T - automatic trans
M/T- Manual trans
TCCS _ Toyota computer control system
CTS = Coolant Temp Sensor. wink.gif
OHC/DOHC = Overhead Cam/Dual Overhead Cams
Rad = Radiator
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
WP = Water Pump
FP = Fuel Pump
SC = Supercharger
BHG = Blown Head Gasket
LSD = Limited Slip Differential
PHB - panhard bar
FF - Front engine Front wheel drive
FR - Front engine Rear wheel drive
MR - Mid placement Rear wheel drive
FWD - Front wheel drive
RWD - Rear wheel drive
OHV - Over Head Valves
SBC - Small Block Chevy
HG - Head Gasket
FPR - fuel pressure regulator

POS- Honda
FORD - Found on road dead
