Hi, what engine mounts did you use for the swap? Was your celica a gts from the begining? I have an 84 gts coupe, I have the 1uz, harness and ecu. I believe the celica has a w58 tranny, so I will also need to get the kit to adapt the tranny to the motor. Can you help me? As I'm having a hard time finding the mounts for he nine. Thanks loving your car!

Hi I am new to your forum, came here looking for part weights for GT Celica's trying to work out what on the Celica supra weighs so damn much, and why the listed curb weight for the GTS celica of the era is listed so remarkably low. ( I am skeptical )

In an effort to shave a few LBS off the fat lady, I have pulled one of my cars apart to weigh many of its components to figure out exactly where the fat is at. (1986 Celica Supra)

A complete turn key 5MGE with W58 Trans mounted: 568 LBS.

Complete running Engine + Starter. Not including flywheel, clutch or pressure plate: 439.5 LBS

W58 Transmission no shift leaver, (has oil): 93LBS

Complete clutch assembly: 35.5 LBS

Complete W58 Trans with Clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel: 128 LBS

Part weights not included in weights.
Radiator hoses
Radiator
ECU
Air box
Air box pipes
Air flow meter
Power steering pump
Air Conditioning pump

don't forget there was no ST Coupe model of the Supra. ST Coupe in bare bones was manual steering, solid rear axle, manual windows, and no power locks I think either. And the 5M people said is only something small in weight difference, but I don't believe it. Also front of the supra is much longer. Also not sure if the upholstery in the supra is heavier or not, might be a little added weight, dunno.  Either way ST Coupe was rated at 2500lbs I'm sure between a GTS LB and Supra it's similar.

The supra front suspension is the same as my old GTS / GT cars. The added length is between the K-member and the firewall; essentially from the firewall back the rest of the body is 100% identical to the liftback Celica GTS / GT cars. (the steering arms on the supra are longer to slow the steering giving the care a more stable feeling)

The added weight from what I can tell is from the following sources.

Loads and load of sound dampening tar; I estimate between 75 and 100 LBS of it. On the Supra the stuff coats the entire floor from the pedals to the rear of the car, and its 1/4 inch thick. The only places that do not have the sound dampening tar are hardware mounting points.

Sheet metal parts for interior, that are covered in foam and then wrapped in vinyl. (The front cabin interior parts only)

Added "luxury" climate control system; its amazingly over complex. It essentially adds nothing but weight too the care for the sake of "climate control"

Added "luxury" components like under hood sound dampening blanket, under hood work lamp, gas filled struts for the hood, steel headlamp covers, and the list goes on and on.

Been trimming the fat on my 86 Celica Supra for some time, it started off as a "rust" salvation mission, then developed into a "where can I cut the fat" mission.

The supra front suspension is similar but different. The spindles, control arms, spring hats, strut mounts, ball joints, and steering knuckles are all slightly different, as is the rack. But you're right about the body, the supra and gt-s hatch shells are identical from the firewall back, save for a few differences in the tail light and rear bumper mounting points.

Yes, but I didn't mention anything about the front suspension. That's why I said solid rear axle, GTS and Supra had IRS, no Supra had a solid rear axle and no supra had manual steering. Also from my understanding all STs were coupes. I probably should have been more clear in what I was trying to insinuate, my guess is that internets like to embellish and the light weights posted for the Celica are probably from ST coupes which aside from having the spartan interior also have other components that are lighter including the rear half of the car compared to a Supra. Cuz a fully loaded 1985 GTS is probably 2700lbs and the Supra is 3000, so if we take into consideration, larger engine, longer front end, heavier upholstery, interior door panels, other options, etc. I'm sure it makes easy sense how a Supra could weigh 300lbs more than a full load 85 GTS.

Makes total sense, thanks for the additional info.

Do you know if the Celica GT / GTS / ST has the side impact protection bars in the door?

The Celica Supra does for sure; I have had several of the doors apart, and never once actually looked for it in a GT / GTS car. Makes me curious if all of them have it, or is it another one of the strange little nuances that Toyota incorporated into one trim package over another.

Good question, probably best bet is to find individual weight of each component. I don't think anyone on here has that info though.

Lol.  That's a good one man. I highly doubt anybody here has even come close to doing that let alone the 1/3uz swap.

I can tell you the fully dressed 1uz series I is supposedly 396 dry. Vvti will add weight.

There are a few people who have completed their 1UZ swaps.
