Billym W58 Shift Bushing Trio Group-buy

Please read the ENTIRE first post before asking any questions, sending any payments, or even thinking about posting in this thread.

The Product

Toss your shifter into third gear, now wiggle your shifter side to side.  If you've got more than 1/4" of travel you most likely suffer from a worn shift socket (every w58 I've ever seen has had it)  No problem you say?  You'll just replace the bushings?  Negatory, that only replaces the shift seat and knuckle bushings.  Replacing the socket shouldn't be much harder, right?  Ready to cough up over $125 for the parts and pull/split the tranmission to fix it?  ...nah, me either.  This option allows you to do it all from the shifter hole to great result.  I slam gears on my 7m mk2 race car with this kit, the precision and solid feel assure I never miss a shift.  I wake up, snick my celica GTS into gear, and roll out along my daily duties, without the wobble ever-present on the stock shifter and no noticeable increased vibration or noise.  The shift feel on this kit eclipses anything you've ever felt in these cars, I promise.

This shift bushing kit is a drop-in option for repairing the worn shift socket within the transmission (#3) WITHOUT dropping and splitting the transmission (and paying Toyota ~$100 for the part).  The kit also comes with a delrin shifter nuckle bushing (#2) and an upgraded delrin seat bushing (#1) to finish up the set.  I guarantee this to be the best shifter feel, with over 350 already sold, the positive feedback is ROLLING in...  Don't be left wondering if you're shifting into second or fourth, fix it right, fix it once, and enjoy it!

see below for bushing arrangement

It's looking like I may be in for 2 sets, IF it will work with that crappy Mookeeh short shifter I got on ebay. Now I would also suggest that this be added to the Preferred Merchants list if Billy is up for it, and it takes off the way I suspect it will.

can you just get the 2+3 parts? I already have the seat bushing ( 1 ) from another company, any discount if I don't need that part?

Not at this time.  It is absolutely essential that you replace all units to get that feel good product.  All I need is someone going "god, I paid $20 and it doesn't feel very tight" and then I'm having to explain that he or she didn't install the full kit, and it wasn't the product's fault.  Put yourself in my shoes, it's a risk that I don't want to take.

...after I sell all the initial interest, then hit me up and we'll see if I have remaining stock.

Take yours out, and if it's new, keep it as a spare.  They do wear, although much slower than the stock units.

billyM, you say every w58 you've ever seen has a worn knuckle? isn't the bushing supposed to wear instead of the knuckle?

i just did the 1 and 2 bushing part, with pieces from marlincrawler on my 83 and it is as tight as i could want it. (it does only have 100K though)
16 for the pieces, but another 12 (?!??) for shipping so 28 total.

if you are worried the shifter knuckle may be worn too, it's probably worth the extra 7 bucks to replace it too. cheap insurance, but i'm not fully convinced it needs it.

my 84 is a little sloppy, and needs bushings, so i may be in on this in a short bit too.

84GTCoupe, got your payment, you should get an automated message from paypal when they ship.

Kid, I broke down my 90k mile transmission, and the plastic bushing had already fallen out.  I can take a picture of three different w58 transmissions in my shop right now and show you that the bore itself DOES wear (in addition to the 5+ other w58's I've worked on that are currently in cars).

I'm a betting man, and I've got $20 that says my shifters have half the slop of yours, and that you simply don't know how good it can get.  If you're down for it, camera setting on the console lid, third gear, hold the shifter left and then right with a standard rubberband stretched tight (so I can see you're putting pressure), take two shots.  I'll compare it to mine, and if you're right, I'll paypal you $20 that day.  If I'm right, you have to buy a kit.

Ok guys, for those of you on the fence, this won't be around forever.

Once I've seen there is not enough interest to pursue this any longer, you all will be ordering the sets from a reseller (expect the price to rise) or be finding bushings direct from three different suppliers ($$$), modifying the bushings yourself (TIME), and won't have the hand-tested assuredness that all will go together like I've promised.

Every w58 I've come across has needed this.  Even if you don't need it this instant, you will need it sometime down the line.

Lets get some more purchases so this batch can go through.

BillyM,

I might suggest that right before Xmas is not a real great time to be trying to get people to chip in to this. There's usually a lot of expenses at this time of the year, I doubt for some it's a lack of interest - it's more a lack of $$.

Just an observation...

if that's less than yours, i'll accept the 20 buckaroos.
i have a second celica which is indeed still sloppy, so i ordered a set anyways.

i know that moving of the wobbling of the shifter is anyoing, but does it make any other difference?? better shifts?? or just stops that anoying wobbling. thanks
