I was thinking about the home made short throw. I'm sorry, let me clarify - I mean like what celica83_gts posted clear back on May 10, '05 ("True Short Shifter How-To").

Heres a pic of my homemade short throw mod with bushing it was a very tight fit on the shifter ball as well as in the bushing.

I have yet to get the tranny end apart but since its already out of the car that should make it alot easier
My only concern was it looked like when u grinded the bushing to fit u could have taken just a few more moments to ensure it was completley round and the notches came out even.
Im sure this affects nothing it just didnt look as nice as the product u posted is all.
Other than that small detail i look very much forward to getting this installed thanks for the quick shipping!

Firstly, tyler, dave, got your payments, thanks guys!  Keep your eyes here for shipment dates.

Teran is referring to separating the upper and lower shifter, and drilling or removing the rubber spacer.  This shortens shift length by height removed x 3.14159, but mainly like he says "gets rid of the truck shifter feel.  I've done this  in two of my cars (not the celica though).

With the short shifter you showed, where you extend the knuckle down, you are moving the seat height up, correct?  Most people doing that stack two stock shifter seats ontop of eachother.  This changes the lever angle on the bottom end, instead of the top.  Introducing a weld down there scares the heck out of me, so I've yet to go that route.

About the "look" of the bushing, I have started to take some more material off to make sure they slide between the pins.  I made an executive decision to keep prices low by turning these suckers out as fast as I can (remember, it is inside the transmission), but I promise any different "look" to it will not compromise the longevity or performance in any way.  I've started flattening off the edges on the latest batch even.

Take care,
--BillyM

Yes on my shifter took a piece of 1/2" Stainless bar stock and cut it as described in the "how to" article.
Also added a chamfer to the weld edges on the round and the shifter to create route for my weld to penetrate, and was fully TIG welded.
This will require me to put a spacer between and raise up the seat height i have not made the spacer to go between as of yet.
I thought about cutting up a shifter seat, but i have a buddy with access to waterjet so ill probably just have him cut me out a spacer to match the gasket.
As for the weld issue i have been a certified welder since i was 20 (now 30) as well as welding teacher for my local union i have no worries that the weld will break
Although that could be quite a disaster if that did happen so i share youre concerns.
I am excited to get this thing all together and get my snap-on rachet accurate shifts, thanks again for offering this!

Adding a spacer under the whole plate sounds a lot easier than the mod listed in "True Short Shifter How-To", and doesn't destroy a possibly good cover. Good idea - I'm glad I thought of it. J/K, give credit where credit is due, and it is due to 84GTCOUPE!

Now if there was a simpler way to extend the rod...

I can machine the 1/2" spacer...
I'll see about pulling the shifter (stick) out of our '83, and I'll let you know!

As I said in the other thread, the engine is looking great!

Does anyone know if the shift cover and stick are the same on all/most/any "W" series trannies?

Zee has paid for one set.

please pm Zee w/trackin # if there is one when shippin .

Zee thanks you ;)

Hey 83 I had that same mookeek shifter....
took it to local aluminum weldin shop
had them weld the spot where the
plastic insert was to fit close to the pin size..
made a vast improvement.
aluminum does not wear down as quick as plastic.
cost $45... their min charge. so hopefully
that mixed with this will make things even better :cross:
