Why Must Our Wiring Be So Fucked?
« on: Sep 21, 2003, 08:32:00 am »
I dunno about you guys....by my cars wiring has been suspect lately....like the E-brake light and the light for the battery are like intertwined.....and when I dont have my headlights on.....when I push on the brakes my console and dash light up.....and stuff like that........and now my stereo wont work.....dunno why yet.....and i think my battery/alternator problem is likely due to wiring! UGH......damn wires!

Well the wires are just a little old. But I have noticed problems with mine quite a bit too.

On the Toyotas, when the alternator is on its way out, the brake light and alternator light will come on as a warning. I would suspect your alternator either has a bad regulator, rectifier or short brushes.  I would start my search here

It could be that or your batt charge relay is going out. When I first got my car the brake light would not shut off and the charge warning light kept coming on. I took the relay out and tested it....it was dead. Went to the j/y and got a good one, changed them out, and viola! No more problems..

that console deal sounds like a bad ground or crossed circuits
(wire that should be on separate fuses crossed, making a new, erroneous circuit with the current running the wrong direction)
but i imagine it's just a wiring fault
cuz i'm not familiar with the wiring
but i know they use switches on the negative or ground wire on some circuits
sounds rather lame
and the headlight wire is insuffient
if you re do it with correct wire/relays the lights get much brighter

I've a had a few minor problems with wiring in the past.  I think I read a review somewhere once that claimed our wiring needed improving.  Nevertheless, electrical problems on any old vehicle comes with the territory.
