ok i have been trying for the last few days to get at the inside of the differential on my 82 gt and i cant figure it out. i took the driveline off and then the dozen or so nuts that holdthe gear housing to the axle and it wont come off. somehow it's stuck and will only come out about 1/4". so i thought may i have to take the axles out first. and off go the wheels and i find out that there is no way to take them off, they dont detact that way. so please somebody give me a suggestion.

When you take the drums off. You'll see 4 bolts holding the backing plates on. They also hold the alxe's in place. Remove the 4 bolts and the axle's will slide out.

yea did that too, they wont move an inch, tryed a pry bar to.

did you push the differencial back into the housing?

The axels are hard to pull out. You need to remove the axels before you can take the diff out. Maybe you should try looking on www.club4ag.com those guys always swap differantials and i'm sure they can really help you out.

have u tried using an axle puller? me and my friends used one when we did a AE86 rear solid axle...

You have got to unbolt the axles from the tubes and use an axle puller. They will come out. The control arm bolts are a different story all together. I hope you are not taking the entire housing out.
