when you take it off hold the pass side tight and roll it down till it binds in the guides.
could you be super duper descriptive on how to get the cam gear to not fall off the bottom gear? that seems like a very crucial part.
also are new head bolts a good idea?
is the head heavy with the intake on it?
what about moving the fuel filter ive never heard of doing this yet?
my head gasket failed because i put the cam in without replacing the head gasket, should i get my head resurfaced? (96k on the clock)
my dad got me a felpro gasket set. they call it a *head set* i think it comes with like every gasket for everything that goes on the head. sounds like overkill but hey i dident have to pay for it. anyway is felpro good?

sorry if i ask too many questions

your question makes no sence, i described it as best i can

also are new head bolts a good idea? read thread again

what about moving the fuel filter ive never heard of doing this yet? not a efi write up, but your answer IS on the forum under the search tab
my head gasket failed because i put the cam in without replacing the head gasket, should i get my head resurfaced? (96k on the clock) depends on the condition of the head, your machinist can tell you

I did my head gasket not to long ago and I just left the intake manifold on to save time!

Duh! I said that three posts up.

You can't do that if the head needs to go in for machining though.

when you had the machine shop mill the head (.009 i believe you said was taken off) were you still able to use a stock size head gasket or did you have to get a thicker one?

i used a stock size gasket. i also used the stock timing gear. i remember hearing something about it altering the timing slightly because of the chain length changing. not sure if thats the case or if the tensioner takes it up or what. either way my motor feels fine. ive put at least 1-2 thosand miles on it. i did mess something up with the efi though. theres no way i should be getting 15 mpg :lame:. Perhaps ill take a third look at my efi tommorow.

You lose about 1 degree of cam timing for every .010" milled. I doubt that on a stock motor with a stock cam, 1 degree would even be noticeable, but if anything would move the power band a hair higher.
Speaking of head gaskets though, there are so many different ones available, and they vary in compressed thickness from somewhere around .030" to probably better than .060" or so. I'd love to find out what Toyota originally spec'd the compression at, so there would be something to go on, and then start measuring old gaskets.
Quite frankly, I wouldn't sweat anything less than .010" at all. Also remember, the cam timing you may lose, may be more than made up for in compression increase.

And no, the tensioner cannot make up for it. The tensioner will take the slack out, but can not make up for the milling in relation to cam timing.

something tells me the machine shop would frown upon that, or just charge you an ass load more for being dumb and taking the head to them with the intake still attached

i actually did it cuz some parts of the intake were lower then the head surface.

more of a pita to pull the plugs and water channel cap thingy then then whole intake.

Pulling an EFI intake isn't near as easy as pulling a carbed intake though!
