Driver Seat Lift
« on: Dec 11, 2010, 05:56:50 am »
The driver seat on the Celica GTS was too low. Felt like a little old lady looking just over the steering wheel. It was  a pain to drive. Remembered a long time 4Runner forum member had a seat lift for his 4Runner that had the same problem. He still sells the kit he makes from his home. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/index.shtml#SeatHeight Fits perfect on the Celica.

Seems for Toyota, the standard seat is higher than the sport seats for some reason. The standard seat in my 4Runner never had the issue. The 1" lift kit doesn't sound like a lot, but it made a huge difference. Best $12 spent on the car. You might want to browse through his website. He has some other innovative products for 22RE engines and other parts that are applicable to the Celica too.

I don't mind sitting a little low, but the problem I have is the GT-S seat is too low at the back, so even with the seat all the way upright, it is still slightly reclined. With the amount of driving I do, it's nice to be able to sit up straight with my head against the headrest.
As for the height of the seat, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that with the car as low as it is, when I swing my feet out of the car, my knees are higher then my ass, so it is literally getting UP out of the car.

As for Adam, when we drove to Bonny Lake to get his '80, he was wearing a beanie, and since he was sitting so low in the seat, looked like some sort of whitecican.

I do the same thing with my Honda stock. It's so bad that I've destroyed the driver's seat using it to get in and out of the car, the seat back is separated from the padding. And that was before I put the coilovers on and lowered it.

There's an art to getting in and out of lowered cars without looking like a tool.  First thing I learned when I got my MR2.

That's what a lot of people do, and that is why the rain gutters are usually flat against the body.
