Forum software and email updates
« on: Feb 05, 2011, 10:02:07 am »
Couple updates tonight:

Forum Software

I've updated the forums to the latest version of SMF. Everything that I've tested seems to be working fine. But if you find any problems please let me know in this thread.

Forum Email

Also, I've changed the way the forums send email and enabled domain keys email authentication and SPF verification. This will allow email servers that receive forum emails to verify that the email actually originates from Celica-GTS.com (and keep them out of the spam box). There should not be any interruption in emails for properly set up email servers, but please report it here if you stop receiving emails and I'll look into it.

Another Layer of Spam Prevention

Last but not least, I've added another layer of spam prevention. We're now using the Project Honeypot database to filter visitors to this site. This will not only filter out more forum spammers but it will also reject any IP tagged as an email harvester so they cannot see any pages on the forum (to try and steal email addresses).

While you're at it, is it possible to move the introductions section up to the top?

Anyone else think this is a good idea? I'll do it if enough people second this.

I just got on using my phone and it thought I was a spambot. Well this is going to get annoying if I have to answer math question every time.

I just got on using my phone and it thought I was a spambot. Well this is going to get annoying if I have to answer math question every time.

When you get the "You're probably a spammer" message and complete the little questions it saves your session on the server for 24 hours, but it looks like your IP keeps changing every few minutes so your session gets lost. Must be a quirk of mobile connections.

Unfortunately, it looks like a bunch of IPs in your block have been used to send spam. Almost every IP you've connected with today has sent out a few spams in the last 2 months. Did someone actually make a spam app for the iPhone?  :heh:

I've slightly increased the threat level threshold and reduced the number of days since last spam threshold. Hopefully this will let you through unless you happen to get an IP that has sent out more than a few spams recently. If this keeps happening let me know and I'll see if it's acceptable to bump up these thresholds a little higher.

I'm on my iPhone right now, even though I'm at my desk, because I'm working, using my PC.
Adam, it depends who's internet connection your using to get on - and no, it's not T-Mobile. Are you at home? Do you have wifi at home? Who's your ISP at home?
Apparently I don't have any problems - Steven?
