The Weight Thread: 85 GTS LB, 77 LB, and 85 Cressida
« on: Feb 10, 2011, 09:25:23 pm »
Here is weight info gathered from 3 different threads to make a cleaner sticky (i.e. not as much jibber-jabber :P )

I'm posting this in the "Suspension & Brakes" section, since weights are normally checked for suspension tuning.

Overall weight 2800 Lbs.

It was obvious that the scales weigh to the nearest 50 Lbs, but where it rounds off is confusing.

To make it simple, the overall weight was 2800 Lbs, no passengers.
The right side weight was 1350 Lbs.
The left side weight was 1400 Lbs.
That does not add up - it is 50 Lbs. short on one side, so they must be very close to equal.

The RF weight was 700 Lbs.
the RR weight was 650 Lbs.
so it does add up to the 1350 Lbs.

The LF weight was 750 Lbs.
the LR weight was 700 Lbs.
That is 1450 Lbs.
or 50 Lbs. more than the entire left side weight.

The RF weight was 700 Lbs.
the LF weight was 750 Lbs.
That does equal the 1450 Lbs. of the front.

The RR weight was 650 Lbs.
the LR weight was 700 Lbs.
That does equal the 1350 Lbs. of the rear.

Overall weight 2500 Lbs.

It was obvious that the scales weigh to the nearest 50 Lbs, and we came to the conclusion today that it splits at about half that.

To make it simple, the overall weight was 2500 Lbs, no passengers.
The right side weight was 1250 Lbs.
The left side weight was 1200 Lbs.
The overall weight must be just over 2475, the left side is just under 1225 and the right side is just over 1225, so it is close to balanced.
The battery is on the right side in this, so he is using a truck type air filter on the "reverse hybrid 22/20RE (20R block, early 22RE head and EFI).

The RF weight was 700 Lbs.
the RR weight was 550 Lbs.
so it does add up to the 1250 Lbs.

The LF weight was 650 Lbs.
the LR weight was 550 Lbs.
so it does add up to the 1200 Lbs.

The RF weight was 700 Lbs.
the LF weight was 650 Lbs.
That does equal the 1350 Lbs. of the front.

The RR weight was 550 Lbs.
the LR weight was 550 Lbs.
That does equal the 1100 Lbs. of the rear.

Bone stock, with AC and power steering, mine was 2400. I've gotten 100 lbs. out of it so far pulling the AC, flywheel, header, light seats - that kind of thing. It has a full interior, though.

That's the weight I think I might be currently or at least shooting for, my future goal would be 2200lbs, but I'd need more CF stuff, which is money :glare:

I think a racing battery, radio delete and a couple other things will get me to 2250. But I think that's about all I'll get and still be FSP legal. A friend of mine had an AE86 hatch built for FSP right at 2200. A coupe would be lighter. So I think all in all, 50 to 100 lbs. more for a Celica than an 86. That's assuming a SRA.

What I'm not sure about is ST vs GT. Everything I could find looked like it was about 50 lbs. difference, coupe to coupe. Power mirrors, folding seats and stuff, but that seems like a lot to me. Cruise control, I guess. Dunno if that can all add up to 50 lbs or not. An early ST with a carb might be a little lighter than EFI. Actually, I bet it is. Manual steering would be a few lbs. too. I'm not giving up either, though.

Some other mods I want to do to lighten up the car is replace front bumper support with an aluminum one. I got one off of a avalon that looks like it would work. What are the rules in FSP for such things? The aluminum one suppose to be stronger too. And not sure if you're following the CF hood thread, but looks like they're getting made.

Ha, old thread!

Drove by a scale with my 4th gen,  an 87 GT-S coupe

2700 overall

1750 front

1000 rear

So overall weight must be somewhere between 2700 and 2725 or so.

Actually handles pretty ok for having a 63/37 split
