dash help
« on: Oct 12, 2011, 12:53:02 am »
so i have been building my dash out of aluminum and i still have some edges to work on.  but it just looks sooo plain, so i thought i'd ask the community for help.  i was thinking a mat black for the base, carbon fiber for behind the gauges and red highlights.  i would like to see what the photoshop guy can do, and i would like to use the toyota dragon some where.

have fun.

ps the area below the climate control will be a navi/stereo type thing

At least you won't have to worry about the dash pad cracking....

Yeah I was thinking if some flair was photoshopped into it, the top would need some flat black treatment. I don't have time to play with it though

Ya the glare is real bad at times. A flat black for the top or base color was what I was thinking but I don't know where to put red or gray accents

Flat black with a negative of a celica dragon over on passenger side would look pretty cool I think, I'll take a crack at photoshopping it tomorrow

A flat black wrinkle finish like http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/237/valvecover14af.jpg/ over the whole dash. Idk, I'm not a scientist.

Looks cool but imagine the imprint that would leave on your skin if your head slammed into it  :heh:

Hopefully that wouldn't be an issue though.

I'm more worried about the sharp metal edges all around the dash :heh:

All joking aside I feel very secure in the car I'm not worried about the dash moving as it is screwed into the frame (existing holes for the og. dash).  And the seat, and harness holds me in tight.

It's not the best, but it's a start. If you want anything changed, let me know.

Yeah, I thought of that too, but I'm just saying in addition to that or if it is a faceplant into a flat side.

That texture looks like aggressive skateboard grip tape too so not only an imprint, but if there is sliding you'd get road rash  :heh:

Again, all joking aside, the texture looks cool and would maybe help ward off the glare.

I think flat black is the only way to go =P. The dragon looks better than I would have expected, but IDK about carbon fiber. This is a pretty race inspired design.... maybe you should just keep it flat black all around, except for around the gauge clusters (IE no dragon design). I don't know how you could pull off a design like that without a decal anyhow, I mean I guess you could throw down a stencil and just paint it on.
