"Mark as spam" button?
« on: Oct 29, 2011, 11:38:31 pm »
Just thinking it might be easier for the mods if there was a "Mark as Spam" button, like craigslist so that after say 5-10 clicks in a day it would automatically be removed (or moved to your hidden "Spam" section, if you like to keep such things), and after a few spam topics being removed, the user banned.

If the spam button is programmed correctly, if it is hit on a specific post, then it could hide that post until reviewed by a mod.

I meant for the user it self not a thread button. Because like our new member he didn't start anything. So lets just spam him but not the threads.

the problem with that is that the majority of the threads would basically disappear. if you look at these threads, about 70% of them dont make it more than a page. it would be a thin forum if im understanding what youre wanting correctly.

just mark that entry as spam until a mod can review.  Then, the mod has the ability to delete that thread entry or entire thread.

I'm not understanding why that would happen, unless a single user created 5-10 accounts using proxy servers for the sole purpose of removing legitimate threads

A mark as spam button would require significant modification and would be ripe for abuse. Me or teran usually respond pretty quickly when we get a report to moderator alert.

Report to moderator does work by the way, so be sure use them whenever you see spam. Whenever I get a report I always check the user and report then delete the account if he's a spammer.

Short answer: Not going to happen unless SMF decides to add it in the base forum software.

There is a spam list in the off topic section. You will probably have to search for it. Post the screen name there and it will get taken care of.
