<start rant>

Since this topic has been raised, I hate to say it, but the very few times I have been able to get on the forum because of life priorities in the last couple of months, I have been really turned off by all the BS with the spelling and grammar correction effectively running off the few new members that come here for the info, a quick answer, comradery, etc.  Could this be the reason the bulk of our Aussie neighbors have, for the most part, left in the last year or so?  I thought the purpose of this forum was to talk about celicas, trade ideas, success stories and the failure opportunities from which we all learn how to make our cars do better, get better and perform better.

I admit that I have pointed out a few grammar and spelling mistakes myself in the past as well as being the brunt of the fray.  I too have gotten carried away with the bashing.  It is not a good feeling in the end.  For those of you that wish to persist on beating up the noobs as well as the seasoned members, I say, get a life, chill out and move on.  I hope you feel good about doing it.  I know I can't.   I regret some of my past bad judgment and behavior with regards to posting etiquette.  I must admit that kids today are not taught the language arts like some of us old farts here but there is just no reason to be so critical of other’s lack of spelling and grammar skills as long as you get the gist what they are saying.  Maybe they are simply trying to learn something along the way.   I admit reading those threads can be a bit annoying but does not warrant the abuse some are given.  They are only here to learn and share.

I’ve been a member here for about 3 yrs and I can say, I try to share the most accurate information that I have available either from trial and error or from an F.S.M.  In the last 8 months or so, there has not been much of interest being posted because so many of the posts contain crap being dished out by the grammar and spelling nazi spoiling the experience.

All of you can blast me all you want for posting this lamb basting but I really don't care.  The overall quality of the threads have fallen to an all time low because of this issue.  All of this bullshit wasn't going on back when I first joined the forum to the extent it is now and has really made the overall experience of the forum almost disgusting, childish and embarrassing.  I used to recommend this forum to others that were not aware of its existence.  There was a time that I would have been proud to have a celica-gts.com sticker on my car.  Today is a different story.  I am sure I can find another site that has the plethora of information without all the bull crap.  If that is not possible, I will continue to do my best to learn on my own and keep my triumphs to myself.  The mods or whomever have the ability to ban me forever for this post or use it as a wakeup call.  It will not break my heart or hurt my feelings one bit.  As I see it, this forum is no bigger than a pimple on a gnat’s butt and those few members are nothing but the hole in that gnat’s butt when you take into account the vastness of what the internet has grown to be and the wealth of information it contains.  Those of you who feel you are “God’s gift to spelling and grammar” should take a lesson in etiquette and tolerance as well.  Otherwise, I feel in the end, those few members may be all that are left and the rest of us will no longer have to be exposed to the “bickering amongst yourselves”.  Let’s all take the forum back in the direction of knowledge sharing, teaching and learning.   Leave the childishness on Facebook, ‘TWIT’er and YouTube.  We will all be better people for it and just maybe, with luck, ensure that the 3rd gen is around and appreciated for another 30 yrs and beyond.

I still think we need at the very minimum one more moderator. And no, not Jesus.  :rolleyes:

So who's it going to be?

I'm not quite that almighty.  :heh:

Seriously though, I don't know him that well or Derek either for that matter. And the sad thing is that I really can't recommend anyone for a mod because no one is on the board enough anymore.  :closedeyes:

I'm checking everyday as well. Whether it's from my laptop, or my phone, I'm still here. I don't think that qualifies though. OldMage was a great guy. I actually talked to him on many occassions back when I had my first Celica (well over 10 years ago). Nonetheless, he's not an active part of the forum and I feel he should be replaced. I know most want to roam free without being checked upon, but there needs to be some sort of regulation here. Steven is busy, as well as Derek, OldMage is non-existant, so why not let someone else take his place?

Derek? Any suggestions? Besides the fake Jesus of course.

just another note here about the mods.  It COULD be possible not to NEED another mod IF....

1.  The BS is left in the lounge where it belongs.

2.  Each of us gently remind noobs and others thur PM's that they are getting too far out there.

Frankly, I would rather see the scolding and infighting taken behind the scenes.  It would also be nice if there was a way to restrict what casual browsers can see.  The lounge should be hidden from non-members and bots.  If the bs was limited to the lounge and the lounge was hidden from non-members, would put forward a very positive and professional forum.  And yes, the spam button would be nice.  If nothing else, it could hide a thread from view with the exception of mods.  Then, only the mods could unlock or would delete once reviewed.  But, that would also take an active mod to be online.

You may not believe this, but I think this is a very good idea. He's certainly the de facto leader of the forum as it is and I think he's a genuinely good guy. Given the actual responsibility to keep things on track and administer the rules I think he would rise to the challenge and do a good job. May take an occasional nudge from others, but I think he'd do the job well.

Now, Bob- if this happens, it doesn't mean you can ban people for grammar errors. You'd have to get over it, which I think you have. If you're willing to do that, I second the nomination.
