As mentioned, this has been requested before, but I had three concerns that prevented it from materializing.
  • There is no reasonable way to make a thread that is owned/moderated by the author
  • There is no reasonable way to prevent anyone but the OP from posting in a thread
  • I do not like empty forums, and I didn't want to create a forum that will see 2-6 threads a year
It certainly is easy for me to create a new forum and just see how it pans out, but I still have those concerns.

Would you be interested trying it out as a child forum (like the probably soon to die due to lack of traffic Photoshop forum)?

Steven; I don't quite understand the need for an OP-only thread. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that most members simply want "build threads" to have their respective section within 'General' as a child forum. On other automotive forums that I frequent, "build threads" are treated as any other thread. The only reason for it's separate section is to ease 'clutter'. From my experience, other member/user feedback has been very helpful during builds. This seems like a mature forum where spamming and other nuisances are not a problem. Either that or the moderators practice good upkeep of the site.
When you look at cars as being built with different specs rather than "Japanese" or "American" you will find that hot rodding is much easier than you think.
