Well I know they are still working cause when I had some bodywork done to the car earlier this month when I got it back I had to adjust both mirrors again.  :heh:
SELECT celica FROM toyota WHERE year<=1985;

-Rebuilt engine: bored .020 over, oversize valves, new cam
-Thorley header w/heated O2 sensor at collector & all new exhaust
-Impact6 strut bar
-3.9LSD rearend, which is now slipping
-Lots of bodywork and new paint!
-New cd player to cover up all those squeaks and rattles
-JK short-throw shifter

So finally got back to the mirrors after that cold streak we had.. When i started i filed the upper threads in a drill press to allow more "wobble" and (lightly) filed and ran a die down lower threads to make it a looser fit also.  Other than that i just pretty much followed your write-up and came out great.

Hope pics work ;)

Filed upper threads with hex head still complete so it chucked up easier.

I see 2 of the same picture but can't seem to be able to edit one of them out

Cut outer plastic holding mirror so i could heat and remove easier..

3M double side tape

BOOM !! That's what i'm talkin bout ,,right there!!

Thanks works perfect and now i can send the boy off with actual working mirrors.

Nice job.  I really like the MacGyver method of modifying the bolt threads :)

Yeah me and that drill press go all the way back to about 1990    It is an early Chinese tool sale type deals,, when they would have those tents set up in mall parking lots,, way back before Harbor Freight took over.

With a drill press, grinder, band saw, and a welder there is virtually nothing you cannot make,, or cut off your finger tips trying.

Hah! I did this the hard(er) way, with a vice and a 4" hand grinder. I actually burned my fingers on the first failed attempt! Man, you only do that once and then you're reeeeeeeeeallly careful!! Who woulda thought freshly ground metal would be hot?!? :heh: :heh:

BTW, this is exactly why I did not request my thread be added to the writeups section. This thread has evolved over a few months and all the information is in one place, rather than scattered through unrelated ancillary threads all over the place. We likely would not have found the heat gun method to remove the glass nor the drill press method of burning threads off near the bolt head if this thread had been moved, as the writeups section does not allow replies.   ;)

That's why it's called a hand grinder! :heh:
