ok so this may sound a bit odd, and I may go off for a bit here...but hear my out, I swear I am not totally nuts...

I was randomly talking with my mom a while ago and we were over by her old horse trailer. she no longer has horses, and its in need of some repair. its decent sized...double axle, holds 3 full sized horses and has a good sized tack room up front...she told me if I was to wanna buy it for a storage trailer, or to make into a car hauler or something I could talk to her about it...

I was driving home today, and it hit me....what if I was to put plexi over the horse windows, add ventilation, put in a workbench, and equip it with all the tool storage I would need....a portable gantry to work in. Since it is designed to hold 3 horses plus tack, hay, and all that...it has a very high weight rating....so I figure put my little portable mig and tig welders in, vice, all necessary fab and hand tools, some jacks, cherry picker, some other crap...

I could install a air compressor and generator in the tack room, as well as all my gas bottles, batteries, and all other bulky items. there is a top storage for hay or whatever, I can certainly put material up top, as well as other items...

My truck is certainly brute enough to tow this thing fully loaded, so that's no problem. I would just need to add some stiffer shocks in back, put my tow package back on, and rewire my plug.

I already operate a custom fab/performance business with my friend (the mechanic) so this would be like an addition to what we do. if you have a garage queen, we could come to you and work at your home, back yard, or whatever...since I am a fabricator, modifying the trailer however we need to is no issue at all.

I guess my question is....if there were a service like that that would come to you, offer both welding/fab and mechanical service, and you could keep your car right where it is.....would you use it? obviously the cost would be a bit more coming to you....but it saves the person a tow bill and the hassle of moving the car around. imagine you could buy a shell...say idk....an ra65...and then buy....an sr20 motor swap...then pay some dudes to come to your place with a mobile workshop, build your mounts, swap your motor in, do a full install all in your home.

obviously their are a few legal things that would have to be taken into account, and this is just an idea....but I would really like some input from the community, because this is an idea that could very easily become reality. I will post pics of the trailer tomorrow when it is light out  :)

I've seen some trailers that were pretty well self contained, and that sounds like a great idea. It may not get you a lot of work, but I'm sure would pay for itself rather quickly. Of course, I seriously doubt I'd need your mobile services...
I've thought about self-containing my tire machine and air compressor with a generator in my little utility trailer to take to drift events, as I'm sure there are people that would love to have tires swapped at events.

mos def, I figure the trailer can double as a hauler for whatever, use as dry storage, and would be a good thing to bring to track days :D and since I can get it so cheep....i am kinda thinkin why not right? I know there are some people what tare into cars thinking an idea will be easy...and end up with a gutter car and needing a lot of help.

A mobile tire guy at drift events would be a great idea....

come to think of it...I think custom fitted mandrel exhaust systems alone could get the ball rolling rather well. its stupid easy to do an exhaust system with all the bends, some pipe, and pipe cutter, and a floor jack....just get under, tack everything up, lower it to check clearencer, take it off and weld up, re-install, add some hangers....

I offer the service at my shop, but I know a lot of people who end up towing there cars to me because they have motor swapped and have an open manifold/downpipe....

Totally spaced gettin some trailer pics today....but I got dimensions.

width is just shy of 6 feet wall to wall, overall length of trailer floorspace + front room is just over 14 feet. about 8 foot of headroom :P
