Eww, that's the same Vulcan V6 that was used in the Ranger, Aerostar, and Taurus. You really can't do anything with them aftermarket, power-wise, and they're known for cracking heads. I also really doubt that a "special computer" will magically take it from 140-145hp to 170hp.

It would be a LOT better with the dual overhead cam 3.0 out of my 2001 Sable.  Honestly...it hauls.

Yep, the 3.0L Duratec would have been a good choice, but I have no idea what tranny you'd have to use for RWD. Another common, better v6 is the 4.0L SOHC from the '97-2010 ranger/explorer, but IIRC those used completely different transmissions from the Vulcan 3.0L.
