Suicide worthy things;

You finish painting your engine bay, and start cleaning up when all of a sudden some freak cloud comes around, rains for all of about a minute, and all of your clearcoat is ruined with waterspots and needs to get sanded and recleared.

Such is the heartache of working under a fucking tent in your driveway.

I don't know the extent of the damage yet. It started happening, I touched the clear to see if it had hardened up (was about 15 minutes old) , and it was still wet enough to leave finger prints. I wiped the little mist spots away from an inconspicuous area and it left nice little craters where each droplet was. Unbelievable, really. A little drizzle under a tent probably would've been fine, BUT it was fairly windy today, too, so that sucks.

I know around here there's almost always a 10-20% chance of rain. It sucks especially when you're trying to do something that needs to stay dry for a while. I've been trying to stain my newly installed fence and have been trying to work around the weather... I feel your pain.  :heh:

Showers so small they don't even pop up on the radar, ain't it a bitch? lol. I wanted to at least see the little green blip so I could quantify my rage against.. something.

Continuing the annoying weather, there's more wind here than the political debates today. I woke up and my tent was a little worse for wear, one of the poles actually bent! Go figure.

Here we have what rain does to fairly fresh clearcoat..
On the side where rain didn't blow onto it;

Annnd where little water droplets can cause havok.

It looked like this for about.. 15 minutes. Gr.

Time to bust out he 800 grit and sand the whole bay again so I can shoot more clear when it's not going to have a freak rainstorm come through, hopefully.
Let's hope for some sunny 70's weather for the fence and Celica's sake, haha!

Gotta be honest. I think it looks ok. I know, I know. It's not perfect. But I'm the kinda guy that says "can you tell from ten feet? Nope? Good enough". Because if anyone gets their head that close to the paint in my engine bay and complains, I'll shut the hood on their head.

LOL unfortunately I think I'm the one who would be criticizing it the most! Seeing it fresh out of the gun before the rain ruined it I was so happy. So I know what it could look like, and seeing it how it is now is just like.. well shit.

I got about 1/4 of it sanded so far! back to work. Gotta get some hours in before the debate tonight, gotta see which one of those bozos is going to ruin the country more than the other.

I know that feeling. "oh it looks so good" turn away for a minute, see clouds show up, wind kicks up and look back your nice shiny part "oh look at that, it got jealous of the clouds and turned all hazy and foggy... "

Luckily this is only a problem during the winter months.

It proved to be a good day for an ebay purchase to show up..

That wind sure was hell on my hands, though. They're pretty mad at me.

Here's a little profile shot of what I was working with, had to knock the majority of this down so it's all uniform and sanded.

Finally all sanded. Now we wait for good weather.

That guitar is sweet. If I were good at music you bet I'd rock something similar  :mrgreen:

I got my goal done of having the engine bay painted by the end of my vacation.

Then I spent the last couple nights fiddling with the interior. I took the carpet out, chipped out all the crap stuck to the floor, etc. I'll have to wire wheel the floor down in the future and seal it up.

I found this, too

Then I removed the whole rear interior, too. I was pleased to find out that the entire rear quarter window comes out as an assembly. So that means the rotted rail on the one side where the gasket sits isn't part of the car, it's part of the window assembly. Maybe the parts car will have one in better shape! Otherwise with it out of the car it'll be easier to clean up, still.

Brought the seats into the living room, lol.
