Bring a Trailer: 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S Convertible
« on: Oct 04, 2016, 11:46:57 pm »
This looks like user "stjredstorm12"'s red convertible up for auction, closing Oct 10:

It's interesting to read comments from "outsiders"/non-owners.  I wonder if some of the usual BaT peanut gallery are intimidated by the offer of a car they could actually easily afford and just drive, vs the usual collector Porsche and Ferrari fantasies or oddball projects they like to banter about.

stjredstorm12, apologies if I blew your cover, but good luck with the auction!  Clearly you didn't get any takers from this forum back in September, for better or worse.  For the rest of us, it's always interesting to see some market feedback.

Such a shame to see a convertible, even in that condition, needing some TLC and a new top, selling so cheap.  :crying:
Cripes! I paid $1,545 for my latest hard top, which is considerably more than I paid for my first two coupes. It needs bodywork, and nearly all the interior swapped with uncracked pieces. I think he can get more than that for his car, and should get more.

The hammer dropped at $2550.  The reserve got lowered, I assume seller saw what interest there was (or wasn't...) and decided it was time to cut the vert loose, and selling on BaT is probably more interesting than CL or eBay.  I know for myself that I've never tried to sell used stuff for any real profit, I list on CL to get stuff sold and out of my life asap.

Maybe October just isn't a convertible time of year.  Local hurricanes probably don't help either.

There's a red convertible on local CL in rougher shape, 143k miles, asking $2200.  In spring/summer there were white and black ones for closer to $5k.
