A funny side note... my original Celica back in the 80s was a BLUE 84 GTS... I always wanted a RED one....  in a way, now I do!  The soul of the red one came to my revival rescue!  Alas, I am going to paint this one BLUE like the one I had back then...  I haven't decided yet if I want to switch out the interior to be blue as well, but I now have Alex's old blue interior parts that he had to get out of his storage place... so I have just about everything needed to make it like my original...  but just a bit better since this one is an 85 GTS

Anybody got any thoughts on having the black interior in the blue exterior?  I think from looking up the color charts that they didn't make a blue one in 85, but I don't think I care about that.

And, when I say "I am going to paint it blue" ... I mean I am letting the professionals handle that... I do want it to look good after all this!!!

They got me just about all back together, but they just told me I'm going to need a new gas tank.  Mine was damaged in the wreck and they can't fix it. ;)  Anybody got one?  Or, know where I can get one?  Or, what other gas tanks will fit this car?  I need it pretty quick...  Searches on the forums bring up a LOT of gas tank posts and I don't have time to read them all!

Thanks!

Celica Supra 1982~1986.5 should work also if you manage to find one. Although it hink 82/83 on the Celica and Supra have an external fuel pump. Not sure if the gas tanks are different but now that I think about probably.

They are, they don't have the cutout for the internal fuel pump. I remember posting a couple months ago that I thought there was a difference between coupe/'vert and hatch and/or GT vs GT-S, and someone came up with the answer...but I don't remember what it was :wall:

The GT tank is taller than the one in the GTS. I tried installing a fuel sender from a GT in my GTS and it was about 1cm too tall. Same capacity though. Probably was able to lay more flat in the GTS as the solid axle wouldn't be in the way.

Happy New Year to me!!  And, to all of Celica enthusiasts out there... I got mine back!!!   Another Celica back on the road!  It's been a long time getting this put back together... and it wouldn't have been possible without help from many of you here.  Thank you all for the help and, of course, sparing me some of your parts stashes!!

Here is the first pic of it back at home.  It's not completely finished, but it is finally painted and back to a driveable state!  Thank you all!

Now that it's back where I can work on it, I am sure the questions will resume as I embark on the next items on the list!

I know I can hardly believe it's back in one piece again!

The blue is the factory paint color that was on the 83-84 Celicas - Blue Metallic (896).  The original Celica I had back in the 80's was a blue 84 GTS that I bought used in 1988.  Even though this one is an 85 GTS I look at it as being my old car with a few upgrades and I always wanted to have it blue.  Well, this is the silver lining in the accident... it provided me an opportunity to have the whole car repainted and there was really no question in my mind about getting it painted in the blue color I had all those years ago.

The painter at the shop told me he was a little skeptical about using this when I gave the 34 year old color code, but he said he could mix it to the factory spec and shoot a couple samples to compare to some newer colors.  When he got it mixed and shot, he actually really liked it a lot.  So much that he's probably going to use that on something else sometime. And, he's no longer laughing at my 80's paint color!!

All I really know is that I have my blue Celica GTS back!!!  It's not just some mythical vehicle I used to tell my kids about all these years, it's an actual car in my garage they can see and touch and ride in!  It's more like a long, lost friend has come home...  I couldn't be happier!

And it's BLUE!!!

That color is good. There's a newer model Tacoma blue that's about the same color, not sure which I like better.

Really glad to see this car's back on the road, I honestly didn't think it would happen.

The blue on the 2012 Tacoma is the other color I was looking at.  They are actually very close to each other.  When I go see my family next month I'll park my GTS next to my cousin's 2012 Tacoma that is this color.  I'll post some pictures so you can see them right next to each other and compare.  Just in case anyone else has this same dilemma later!

That would be awesome! Cuz yeah, I'm gonna have that dilemma. I'll have to check the paint code on my car, it was silver/blue as well, but it had black lines through the blue that I don't really care for.

Wow, that's a gorgeous paint job!
I'd say that I have car envy... but if I ever changed color I'd have to change profile name too  :faceslap:
