New New...
« on: Jun 05, 2017, 12:28:55 pm »
Since I've lurked for a while I suppose I'll make an account/intro thread. Just moved to Central Oregon after living in Portland my whole life. New to cars, celicas and all the cool things that can be done to them. With that said I've been driving the piss out of my 1983 celica GT since I picked it up three months ago. Over Mt. Hood, Through twisty roads, Highway cruising. The car itself is in great shape, pretty much a stock 5 speed with small mods. Mostly looking to document stuff in a build thread since I like taking pictures.

Welcome to the forums! Not to over sell the car that we all love, but the Celica is a great base, but looks like your car looks so good already!

Is it an 82 or 83? Either way such a nice setup.

@corax Yeah pretty clean, I've yet to really get under it and look around. The wheels and condition of the car are what made me jump on it.

@Sigma Projects It's an '83 I believe the tag in the hood reads ra64 if I remember correctly.

@twotone_ra64 Sweet looks like were working on similar platforms. Already looking through your thread for reference.

@swan song I knew there would be other Oregonians on here. Were right in the same area, I could use some help digging through salvage yards

Interesting that it is a RA64 with fender flares like a GTS. Does it have a solid rear axle or an IRS?

It would be IRS, even the '83 gets a GT badge even though it truly is an RA65 with flares and IRS. nick83's GTS is like that.

Good luck with the salvage yards. They have hardly any toyotas to begin with, mostly hillbilly trucks and garbage American 90's throw away cars. Plus the EPA shut down our only upullit/lkq out here. Now we only have the one between Redmond and bend. Which drove up the cost for part our cars on Craigslist.

Yea, but I was curious because I thought they used the chassis code RA65 for the IRS models of all years, not RA64.

I've thought the same thing, but I've seen in other countries the chassis tag is ta63 or sa63 and it still has IRS. Manufacturing in the old days was crazy.

Yea, it's different for different markets, but I remember for the US we only had RA64 and RA65 and the difference was SRA vs IRS I thought.

Edit: so what I'm getting at is if it is possibly a late production 82 sold as an 83 with a SRA and fender flares like the 82 GT-"Sport" was, since I think that was also a RA64. If he reports back about his rear suspension that would be the definitive.
