Another tire question
« on: Jun 17, 2017, 02:45:20 am »
I don't know if this one has been answered, I've searched. What cars came factory with the GT-S's tire size of 225/60 14? I came across a Subaru svx from the same era at the junkyard and it came with them. Are there others? thank you

Early Mustangs did as well, that's probably the only reason they're still made.

That's one of those questions that really can't be answered, because so many models have different trim levels and options with various tire sizes.

Are you just looking for different wheels? Or looking for old junkyard tires? Either way man... there's a simpler way. You can almost run any 14" tire made for a passenger car on these cars. They have large wheel wells. I'm toying with the idea of 32" mud terrains... but also wheel wise you can use a tire calc to figure out what sizes would fit within the stock size.

Yes, I was looking at junkyard tires as an option to the very few, and relatively expensive, new tires.  There may be other tires 14" that will mount, but I really rather keep it completely original.  I'll keep the search going.  So far, only a very early Mustang, and a mid 80s Subaru SVX are owners of this size.  So, the search goes on. Thank you all for the replies.

Just went through this - i decided to keep  the Stocker on the wall for now and I went with

225/60r15 on Bassett D-hole 15x7 with 4" backspacing or that comes out to 0 offset.

And all of that for the same price of 4 BF Goodrich T/A's @225/60r14

60 series 225 on a 15 is gonna be a bit bigger, 1/2 inch in height and your speedo will be off by about 4%.

Keep in mind the Basset rims are intended for racing. They're not designed to take hits from potholes and curbing, they're designed to be as light as possible.

If he bought the right ones Bassett makes a DOT approved wheel. It's what I plan on buying. If not the DOT version then those rims are designed for a race season of abuse and then thrown out, because danger to teh manifoldz.

The bassett wheels are probably still stronger than reps though. And since they are steel you can pound them back if it's not that bad.

Ha ha ha all good points!

4% speedo = I never look any way, years of Driving my Supra by RPM and Gear due to a broken speedo ;-)

I got the DOT version and the DOT is a regulated thickness, nothing more nothing less. They said the race lightweight D-hole wheels are plenty strong for street use, and they are $20 more and there was a wait. I no like wait!

At 15x7 you are talking @21.75 lbs vs @16 lbs for the lightweight's - I should'd waited :-(

Free Red Stripe !

Should be a nice aggressive race inspired look.

Don't worry about weights. Negligible unless setting world records. Also, most ppl don't realize it, but the tire you put on sometimes negates any weight savings over stock.
