Good luck getting the 3uz engine to fit height wise. That engine is quite a bit taller in both block and intake manifold. The 1uz just barely clears our chassis Hood line.

Hmm well that's going to be a problem, would you happen to have any links to where you got that info? Hopefully they have the measurements so it would greatly assist before I actually purchase the engine. I'll do some more research on my end too and if it's the case that it won't fit I'll have to start thinking about a 1uzfe (at least the internals would be ready for low boost)

You may have saved me from a big headache.

Got me curious as I always thought they were roughly the same size since the heads never seemed that much bigger.

My bad. http://www.lextreme.com/3uzblock.html

I was thinking 4.7, not 4.3. Also, the 2uzfe is the boat anchor of the uz family. Damn iron block... but hey, it can take sinister amounts of boost!

Ah ok, you might still be right that it's a tad taller because of the intake manifold, but my guess is that it's not that much different. I read the rule of thumb is to plan for a rough 28" cube to make life easier.

Btw do you guys know of anyone that currently has a first generation celica In this form?

And I see some reference to a Groupe of people with toyotas in the Virginia area but that seems like it's all a few years old. Anyone still interested in events around northern Virginia?

Not personally, but I've seen a couple with 1UZ swaps, they looked good. On this forums probably the closest to your application is Al "ToySnake" who swapped a Ford Cobra V8 into his 2nd Gen. He's done a ton of work to his car, probably a good resource since the 2nd Gen Celicas also have a steering box like the first gens. I believe he converted his car to rack and pinion as well.

There is the first GEN Celica forum, but I believe it is invitation only so somebody on this forum can invite you. I think A20 is one that can do it for you if you want to PM him
