Old school tires might come back!!!!

It’s jalopnik so take that as it is. But the news is good, and those tires would look fantastic on our cars!

Pretty cool. I'm always wondering why there aren't more options since there seems to be a demand for it. When getting some 14" sport tires I basically only had one option which was to go with Dunlop, at least they're pretty nice tires.

Damn, my Hondas use 185/60/14s, it'll be nice to have a decent option for new rubber when I get them on the road.

If they don't come to the US take a look at Dunlop Direzza Star Spec II (I know a mouthful) I picked those up for my honda, same size 185/60R14.

Edit: Oh shit, I went to check Tirerack to see what they were currently going for and now it says they're a closeout sale, limited stock. Damn, sounds like Dunlop is putting an end to those 14" tires as well.

Yea I get the feeling it's really for 70's cars. 80's cars had decent tread width. Especially cars like the Starion that had optional 245 rear tires. Regardless even 185 on a 14" wheel is so rare in a sports tire. It's either chinese crap, eco tires or straight to semi racing slicks.

There was only the TA tires for my GTS when I replaced my tires. The tires on this list are too small.

I find the 16inch  tires for my porsche where hard to find much chioce.
We replaced the dry rotted tires on the 87 Supra last spring it had more chioce I noticed it has the same 16 inch size of my z3.

I hope as my generation wants a piece of the past more cars will be saved. If here is a demand someone will make it.

A bit necro posting. So when I saw that Dunlop wasn't offering their Direzza ZII Star Spec in 14" anymore I was pretty bummed, but looks like it's because they were just replaced with the Direzza ZIII.

The 185 section width is pretty narrow for GTS rims I guess, but on a GT wheel they'd be right at home.

Ever seen a GT wheel? That crap is tucked under the car so far it makes a Celica look like one of those circus bears riding a unicycle

Yea, it's what I used to have on my first Celica I had. Fun fact, it's one of the options that came on the AE86, it just had a slightly different center cap that makes the wheel look different.

235/60? Massive sidewall. They look ok, but side wall flex will be real.
