Old spray-on bed liner
« on: Jan 23, 2018, 09:47:27 pm »
So back when I got my truck it was sprayed with a liner of some sort. I'm thinking it was more of an underbody-protection type material, not necessarily the specialized spray on stuff.

The problem is, I actually use my Ranger to haul crap around. I've lost count how many times I've had pallets, dirt, whatever in the bed.

This material has basically rubbed off in a few spots in the bed now, and now I'm not sure what I should do. Should I try to strip it off and have a proper liner sprayed in? Or just say f-it and put a rubber mat in. The rubber mat is far cheaper than spraying a new liner in (they would just spray on top of the existing, so no warranty.)

What would you guys do with this "problem". I dunno wtf to do about it.  :heh:

I'd evaluate how much the truck is worth it to you or how long you plan to keep it.

Probably quite a while yet. I bought the Ranger new in 2009, and it only has 51k miles/83k km on the odo. I don't actually drive the truck much, most of the miles I put on my Celica. A truck is really handy to have around the house though. I'm glad I don't use my Celica as a truck anymore.

That's why I'm scratching my head.

I wonder how hard it'd be to get that stuff off. I'm really only concerned about the bed itself, the sides have little to no wear.

With *bed liners* I sometimes worry about moisture getting trapped underneath... not enough experience to ever observe rust problem from it though.
Any reason why you don't want to just patch the worn areas with the spray can type bed liner? Flex seal rubber spray looks interesting too.

edit: *by this I mean the rubber mats, or those plastic drop in ones*
