Auction can be followed at:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-toyota-celica-4/

Nearly-factory-fresh and at $3k on first day of auction.  There is a reserve (it would have "no reserve" in title if such were the case).  Any guesses? $8k takes it? $12k?

And I believe they're searching for the term "parade boot cover".  I don't know if any of you ever went to a local parade with local celebrities sitting in open convertibles, butts on the trunk, legs and feet on the back seats--thus, the "parade" boot cover...Maybe road safety doesn't allow that even in slow parades anymore.

I'm watching this one too... bids at $9999 and several days to go on the auction. It's about as nice an example as I've seen.
My 'vert has the original parade boot but I wouldn't dream of letting someone sit on top of it. It's a 3-piece contraption to begin with and it seems like putting weight on it would turn it into a 4-piece pretty quickly.

While I’m never interested in “Bring a Trustfund”, I do like watching our cars get sold for lots of money. (Cha-Ching!$$$)

Haha - "bring a trustfund." That's good.
Somewhat re-assuring that even in a car that pristine, the power mirrors still don't work. Time apparently stood still on everything but the little plastic screws inside the mirrors.

Yep. I think all my Celicas had that problem at some point. Annoying being blinded when you hit a bump on the road.  :heh:

I’ve heard a few of them,  lately from commenters on BAT! “Bring a wheel barrow of cash”, “bring a lawyer”, “ bring a towel”, “bring divorce papers” etc. that site started out cool and overinflated itself to a mecum auctions site. Blah. I remember when the cars were unique AND affordable.

Yeah BAT has definitely changed. I still look at it frequently though. Maybe just to see people selling 20 yr old six-figure Mercedes for used Celica money... and knowing the used Celica will outlast it.
The owners of that site must be making money at a crazy rate - especially when it was just where people sent links to weird cars they saw on Craigslist.

I read this article last year that lists BaT as having both the 9th-most male audience and the 9th-wealthiest audience of 500 surveyed websites:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/priceonomics/2017/07/26/what-are-the-most-popular-websites-by-demographic/

I can’t compete with those wallets. I did bid, once, on a Swedish wagon, but was quickly drowned by a flurry of bids that pushed the price up into wtf territory.
