RA65 with 4 more extra cylinders
« on: Sep 13, 2018, 05:14:26 pm »
So this car has been a project for about 3 ish years and was being built to race the 24hr of lemons series. So we bought a  running ls400 complete and a 85 celica with a seized 22re and mashed em together. So we all love pictures so here we go.... Dial up users beware! (that even a thing anymore lol?)

Looks like a bunch of fun! (I like building and fabbing as much as driving)
I like your idea on the alternator adjuster, just might steal that for my upcoming swap :)

Wow! This is some serious tinkering.
I've never heard about using a seat belt to regulate the axle?

I was lucky to be able to use a CNC mill to make that part but the first version was all by hand with a cut off wheel and some drill bits and a file lol. The alternator still vibrated a bit due to the long stud on the top pivot, So I had to whittle a strap for the top mount as well to steady it.

lol it is not a seat belt. Same material probably. It is actually called a limiting strap. You always see them in the off road world to prevent the shock from being the limiter and it extends the life of the seals....in this case due to the customer perches and sweet megan ebay springs...it keeps the springs from falling out of the perches when going over a big bump or around really tight corners. No sway bar up front as of now so it can lift an inside tire easily.

So we finished our race in 13 in B class and 41st overall. So STOKED!! Got hit twice and melted the EBC yellow pads and factory shoes. Absolutely no brakes about half way through sunday and consuming a bit of water, killed the front splitter and was hit twice so yea...she needs some love.

(first picture and last picture are videos, gotta click on them to see) Last one is loud so BEWARE!!!!

It is on!!

Found all 4 calipers and rotors off craigslist for a 91 300zx turbo.

Working with hawkmachine.com to get some hub rings and caliper brackets made. Dave has been incredibly helpful and patient.

Nice, Buttonwillow! Love that track. Good work on the Z32 caliper upgrade. And RIP headphone users (me) on that last video. Sounded amazing though!

It was a fun track. I liked it more then sonoma. Yep my hub rings and caliper spacers are in the mail from hawk machine. So once I get the rings I can draw up a bracket to mount the rear calipers. Got the supra M/C mounted and line adapted just waiting on fittings to delete the propo valve and add an adjustable propo valve where the ebrake used to be. It will be a project!

Fill a container with brake fluid part way. Put a vacuum line over the bleeder screw. Stick the other end of the vacuum line into the bottle with fluid so the end is submerged. Crack the bleeder and pump the brakes. Basically air is pushed out which rises in the bottle and escapes. When you let your foot bake off the brake it sucks in fluid from the bottle instead of air. usually that gets me 90% of the way bled then I gravity bleed the rest of the way.

For some reason the gravity bleed doesn't seem to work well on empty systems. If you don't care about mess you can also crack the bleeder on an empty system and pump a few times until it spits fluid out then usually gravity bleeding works after that. Anyway try it next time those vacuum bleeders are a pain in the ass.
