WANTED! 84-85 Celica convertible master window switch
« on: Sep 24, 2018, 01:35:02 pm »
I know I'm not the only one looking for one but does anyone have an extra switch laying around or know how difficult the Landcruiser similar switch is to modify to work? I picked up an 85 vert over the weekend and the switch is not broken, it's completely missing  :crying: Any help is appreciated!

Oh and here she is!  :)

I ended up using some dpdt switches from digikey and a home-made bezel. So far they have provided better contact and more responsive window operation.

https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/RB24KC1100/EG5647-ND/4029062

They're a little bit high profile (ie poke out from the door) if you put spade connectors on the back like i did, but could be quite a bit slimmer if you solder wires directly to it.

Will take a picture if you want to see how they look.

Honestly I had thought about doing that exact thing. Do the other 3 windows get power from the master? None of my windows currently work. I'm assuming without the master, they are not getting power?

Also, yes if you have some time, please snap a pic of your setup so I can get an idea! I'd appreciate it.

Have you ever seen a pin-out for the master switch showing which tabs work for which window/direction?

I was under that impression. I'm the worst with wiring so I'm hoping I can track down a pin diagram to show which wires are designated for which window up/down and ground.

switch pictures:

it doesn't quite match the stock look, but it would probably be better if mounted in a lower profile fashion

figuring out the wiring isn't too bad, just probe the connector with an ohm meter and you will find two motor wires for each motor (blue as I recall), a shared ground, and a shared power wire. The middle pins of the switch connect to ground/power, and the four end pins connect to the motor wires, one pair with reverse polarity so that window goes the opposite way.
Get some spade connectors and test wire the switch to make sure you have it right before you solder stuff!

You did great! I picked up 10 switches just so I'd have extras but I'll probably try to run power to all 4 from the driver's side. Thanks for the advice and pics!

I found a factory switch! It's en route to me, let's hope it functions properly!
